Sourced fromCalabria, ItalyWhy people are looking at bergamot
Maybe it happened at your last check-up. The doctor looks at your blood work, pauses, and says something like “let’s keep an eye on this.”
So you cut back on butter. You walk more. You try to eat better. And for a lot of people, the next test looks about the same.
Then comes the conversation a lot of our customers describe in almost the same words: “my doctor wanted me to go on a statin.” Some are ready for that. Many would first like a natural option they can talk over with their doctor.
And it’s not a willpower problem. As we get older, the way our bodies make and clear cholesterol changes, and so does the way we handle sugar after a meal. Diet and exercise still matter. Many people just want a little more support, from something natural they can take every day.
That’s why so many people are now asking about a small, bitter citrus fruit from the south of Italy. It isn’t a replacement for anything your doctor prescribes. It’s one more piece of support you can add every day.

Meet the fruit
Citrus bergamia looks like a small, lumpy lime-colored lemon. It grows almost only along a narrow strip of coast in Calabria, at the toe of Italy’s boot. For centuries it was grown for its peel oil, the flavor in Earl Grey tea. The fruit itself is so sour and bitter that nobody eats it.
That bitterness comes from its polyphenols. Bergamot juice carries an unusual mix of flavanones, and two of them, brutieridin and melitidin, are rarely found in other citrus. Researchers study them for their role in normal cholesterol metabolism.*
Researchers in Calabria spent years studying that mix, which they call the bergamot polyphenolic fraction, or BPF. Our capsules use BergaMonte®, a standardized, patented extract of Calabrian bergamot: min 38% polyphenolic flavanones and up to 80% total polyphenols. The latest batch tested at 79%.

The five flavanones listed on our Supplement Facts panel. The two marked with a star are rarely found in other citrus.
Same 1,000 mg serving. Very different amount of the good stuff.
Nourishing Nutrients
79%total polyphenols in our latest tested batchAbout 790 mg of polyphenols in every 1,000 mg serving. Label: up to 80% total polyphenols and min 38% flavanones, from patented BergaMonte®.Plain bergamot fruit powder
5%total polyphenolsAbout 50 mg of polyphenols in the same 1,000 mg. That is what came back when we had an organic bergamot fruit powder tested. Not another brand: just the dried fruit, before any of it is concentrated into an extract. Why the gap? Bergamot fruit powder is the whole dried fruit. An extract concentrates the polyphenols out of it, so the same 1,000 mg carries far more of them. Both numbers come from our own lab tests.
What it supports
One small daily habit, supporting the things your doctor already checks.
Supports total and LDL cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range.
Supports healthy triglyceride levels and helps maintain healthy HDL, the “good” cholesterol.
Supports blood sugar levels already within the normal range, as part of a balanced diet.
Antioxidant polyphenols that support your overall heart health, day after day.
The research, in plain English
BergaMonte®’s bergamot polyphenolic fraction (BPF) has been tested in 15 published human studies: 11 on BergaMonte®/BPF itself and 4 more by other companies using it in their formulas. Here is what that research adds up to, without the jargon.
Add up everyone enrolled in the 15 published human studies and you get 1,201 participants. Most took 500 to 1,300 mg of bergamot polyphenols a day, for four weeks to four months, and most of them started with cholesterol or triglyceride numbers that were already high.
Published human studies associated with BergaMonte®/BPF®, 2011–2025 (bergamonte.net clinical studies library)A 30-day Italian study used 1,000 mg of BPF a day, the amount in one serving of ours. In the group taking BPF on its own (some other groups also took a statin), cholesterol ratios improved and markers of oxidative stress in the blood vessels went down.
Gliozzi M et al. Int J Cardiol 2013;170(2):140-5Bergamot polyphenols have been through 15 published human studies with 1,201 participants. The bars below are the best result published for each measure: the cholesterol and triglyceride figures come from a published review of 12 bergamot studies, the good-cholesterol figure from the six-month trial that reported it as a percentage, and the blood-sugar figure from a separate trial. Bars under the line went down; the bar above it went up.
Best results reported in the published human studies, not averages: cholesterol and triglycerides from a systematic review of 12 bergamot studies (Lamiquiz-Moneo et al., Crit Rev Food Sci Nutr 2020), where HDL also rose in 8 of the 12; the HDL figure from the 80-person, six-month trial that reported it as a percentage (Toth et al., Front Pharmacol 2016); blood sugar from Capomolla et al., Nutrients 2019 (higher dose). The first human study of bergamot polyphenols followed 237 people for 30 days (Mollace et al., Fitoterapia 2011;82:309–16). Most people in those studies started with numbers that were already high. Results varied from study to study and from person to person, so this is not a promise of your results. See all 15 BergaMonte® studies →
The fine print: 1,201 is everyone enrolled across the 15 published studies. Four of the 15 tested formulas that combine BergaMonte® with other ingredients. Most people in the cholesterol studies started with numbers that were already high, and results varied from person to person and from study to study. Bergamot is a daily support, not a replacement for anything your doctor prescribes. Talk to your doctor before use, especially if you take cholesterol or blood-sugar medication.
The doctor behind the research
Prof. Vincenzo Mollace, MD, earned his medical degree in 1983 and trained in cardiology in Milan. He went on to spend his career as a professor of pharmacology, and today he runs a research center at the University Magna Græcia in Calabria, in the middle of bergamot country.
His team led the first human studies of the bergamot polyphenolic fraction, or BPF. That’s the same fraction our patented BergaMonte® extract is made from. So every capsule carries the extract his research was built on, not a random bergamot powder.

BergaMonte®: a patented bergamot extract, standardized to up to 80% total polyphenols. Not a generic bergamot powder.
Before you buy any bergamot
Bergamot has become popular, and not every bottle is the same. Turn any bergamot supplement around and look for these three things.
| Check | Our bottle | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Flavanone % The flavanones are the point. Is the amount stated? | Min 38% Flavanones | Not stated, or “bergamot fruit powder” |
| 2. A named, studied extract Can you tell which extract you’re getting? | Patented BergaMonte®, named on the label | An unnamed “proprietary” extract |
| 3. Organic + tested Is it certified and checked by a third party? | USDA Organic (PCO) + third-party tested | No organic seal, no testing mentioned |
And the dose: ours is 1,000 mg per 2-capsule serving, every day.

We publish our lab reports. The latest Certificate of Analysis (batch BPF-0901-25B-ORG-60) shows 79% polyphenols and a pass on microbial and heavy-metal tests: arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury.

An easy daily habit
The full 1,000 mg serving, with a glass of water.
The direction on the label, and the way we take it ourselves. Sensitive stomach? Start with 1 capsule a day for the first week.
Bergamot works over weeks, not hours. After a few months, ask your doctor to recheck your numbers.*

Questions
Two capsules once a day, about 30 minutes before a meal. That’s the full 1,000 mg serving on the label. One bottle lasts 30 days. If supplements upset your stomach, start with 1 capsule a day for the first week and then go to 2.
Give it 30 to 90 days. The human studies checked people’s numbers after about 30 days, and many customers take it for a full 90 days before their next blood test. Take it every day and ask your doctor to recheck your routine blood work.*
Talk to your doctor first, and never stop or change a prescription on your own. Bring the bottle to your appointment so your doctor can see exactly what’s in it.

Yes. It’s USDA Organic, certified by PCO (Pennsylvania Certified Organic). The capsule is organic pullulan, a plant-based capsule, with an organic rice blend. No gelatin.
No. Bergamot oil flavors Earl Grey, but this is an extract of the whole fruit in a capsule. You swallow it with water; there’s no taste.
Most people choose 3 bottles ($39 a bottle) or 6 bottles ($29 a bottle), because bergamot is meant to be taken every day and both ship free. One bottle ($49) is a good way to try it.
